TTT08 20th August to 28th August TUESDAY 19th August Arrive at Travelodge Hotel, late evening, own arrangements, own booking. or alternatively, meet at Dover at 0500 on Wednesday morning! WEDNESDAY 20th August 0600 Ferry Dover to Dunkerque, and arrive in Dunkerque at 0900. A full day's drive, around 320 miles, arriving at our Hotel for the night at around 7pm. Total distance perhaps 350 miles, but this is the longest leg of the trip. We use autoroutes all the way, total cost of motorway tolls is 40 to 45 Euros There is a nice meal to be had about half a mile away and they do a set meal for 18 Euros.There is a bowling alley near by, that has a coffee bar as well as beer. There is also a MacDonalds in the town for those who prefer fast food. THURSDAY 21st August After breakfast, we aim to be on the road by 9, heading south on the N19 to Langres, around Langres onto the N74, towards Dijon, turn off onto the D67, towards Gray, then still on the D67 head towards Besancon. This is a fine old town with the old part built upon a hill, it has a wall around it, and there are also some old army barracks that we pass on the way through. Just on the outskirts of the town is a place where we can stop for lunch at the Pizza Capri and the owner has a fine collection of French and Italian cars. We then head south out of on the N83 to Arbois, then across on the D469 towards , We get our first glimpse of the Alps in the distance and we start to hit the windy roads. We come onto the N5 and head towards Geneva. We will drive around Geneva, and get onto the N 205 and head towards the Mont Blanc tunnel, (this costs about 40 Euros for a return ticket) As soon as we are through the tunnel we are in Italy and the Hotel Aigle is only around the corner. www,hotelaigle.it We stay here for the night, because the first film location in only 5 kms away. (about 50 Euros a night EACH, but this does include a very nice meal). FRIDAY 22nd August No rush today because there is only about 150 miles to do. First film location is the flower picking scene, (also used when the vehicle met up and went their separate ways and when the gang transferred from the Doormobile to the coach). Then onto the tunnel where the orange Lamborghini crashed, then onto the St Bernard Pass, where the opening credits were filmed.
Stop here for lunch, parking next to the bridge where the coach and the orange car passed over. Then drive to Turin, stopping at a 3 star hotel for 3 nights, or at the camp site for three nights. Visit most of the scenes in Turin, on foot over the weekend. On Sunday morning while the nice Italian people are in church, we will use our cars to visit some of the scenes on the outskirts of town, the old Fiat factory where they did the jump, the other Fiat factory which is now a hotel complex, where they drove around the banked circuit on the roof, the building with the 3 cornered roof, and the "missing scene" at the ice rink Motorway tolls to Turin 15 Euros SATURDAY 23 rdAugust Turin SUNDAY 24th August Turin MONDAY 25th August Leave ,after doing a bit of shopping for lunch, then head North to the final scene of the film and of the tour, the cliff-hanger.
This is up the Col De Nivolet, 2612 metres above sea level, we spend an hour just driving up the mountain, but it is worth it because the view at the top is breathtakingly beautiful. We will stop here and put the kettle on for a cup of coffee, and just sit back, eat lunch and enjoy the view. Then it is down the mountain stopping off at a couple of film locations(where the white Mini rolled down the side of the mountain and rolled onto the road, as well as the corner where big William" lost control of the coach. Back to Cormayeur to stay at the hotel Aigle for another night. Motorway tolls 10 Euros TUESDAY 26th August Drive to Chaumont, stay at Formule 1 hotel WEDNESDAY 27th August Drive to Dunkerque, stayovernight at Formule 1 Hotel THURSDAY 28th August 0800 Ferry. Arrive in Dover at 1000 am. Drive home, it's all over! FOR WEEKS AND MONTHS AFTER Tell everyone what a fantastic time you had, and how they should have gone as well!
